Alfonso I "the Battler" ruled Pamplona and Aragon jointly following the death of his brother Pedro I, presiding over one of the most aggressive reconquest campaigns in Iberian history — he raided as far south as Granada and briefly held much of the Ebro valley. These fractional billon pieces were struck at Jaca, the old Aragonese capital that had functioned as the kingdom's primary mint since at least the reign of Sancho Ramírez. At under half a gram, losses in circulation and the fragility of the billon alloy mean survivors in any coherent state are genuinely scarce.
