| Obverse description | Facing slightly left, the bearded head of Dionysos is rendered in high relief, with wild, flowing locks radiating outward in characteristic archaic style. The god's mature visage displays a prominent brow, open eye, and full beard, conveying divine vigour. The hair is rendered with fine, sinuous strands fanning dramatically across the flan, a hallmark of Karian civic coinage of the early fourth century BC. The surface of the flan is irregular, consistent with hand-struck production of the period. |
