The legend in Nastaliq script occupies the upper and lower registers, invoking the blessing of the Sikh Guru and citing the name and title of Maharaja Bhupindar Singh Bahadur. The overall design follows the Mughal-influenced style traditional to North Indian princely state coinage of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Patiala maintained its own mint rights under the British paramountcy system, one of the few princely states permitted to strike gold coinage into the twentieth century. KM#15 is sparsely documented in auction records, suggesting limited production runs rather than heavy ceremonial distribution.
