The inscription reads 'سلطان أحمد بن محمد', identifying the issuing ruler as Sultan Ahmed, son of Mehmed, corresponding to Sultan Ahmed I (r. 1603–1617). The script is rendered in a bold, somewhat crude manner consistent with provincial hammered copper coinage of the Ottoman period. Surfaces show significant wear and dark copper patination with reddish-brown high points. No mint name or regnal year is legible, as was common for Ottoman mangir issues of this reign. |
