| Obverse description | Armored and helmeted bust of Emperor Theodosius I facing right, pearl-diademed, depicted in three-quarter view with cuirass and paludamentum. The emperor carries a spear over his right shoulder and a large decorated shield on his left arm. The obverse legend reads DN THEODOSIVS PF AVG, distributed around the periphery within a beaded border, proclaiming him Dominus Noster and Pater Patriae Augustus. The portrait style is characteristic of late Roman imperial coinage, with bold, schematic modeling. |
