| Obverse description | Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Magnus Maximus facing right, depicted in the late Roman imperial style with a pearl diadem and paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The legend D N MAG MAXIMVS P F AVG runs along the outer border, reading clockwise from the lower left. The portrait conveys the emperor's authority through the standard late antique formulaic rendering of the imperial effigy. The flan shows typical irregular hammered fabric with some surface patination consistent with the Arelate mint's output. The obverse field is otherwise plain. |
