| Popis rubu | The emperor Magnus Maximus stands facing left in military attire, raising a kneeling female figure — a personification of the Republic (Roma or Provincia) — with his right hand, while holding a Victory on globe or standard in his left. This REPARATIO REIPVB type, meaning 'The Restoration of the Republic,' was a common late Roman reverse type asserting the emperor's role as restorer of the state. The reverse legend REPARATIO REIPVB appears in the outer field, with the officina letter and mint mark SCON (Arelate, second officina) in the exergue. The design is heavily worn and encrusted with green patina consistent with long burial or circulation. |
