Struck in the first year of the Bar Kokhba revolt against Rome, this issue belongs to a coinage produced by overstruck Roman provincial bronzes — the rebels had no mint infrastructure of their own and worked entirely with confiscated Roman material. Hendin 1376 and Meshorer 220 represent the largest denomination of the Year One series, struck when the revolt still held genuine momentum and controlled significant territory in Judaea.
The Roman host coins beneath are occasionally visible at the edges, offering a literal palimpsest of occupation and resistance. Bar Kokhba's administration maintained consistent production across all three revolt years, but Year One pieces are struck with noticeably more care than later issues, when supplies of suitable flans tightened.
