The central and tallest figure is Romanos IV Diogenes, shown wearing jewelled crown and loros, holding a labarum sceptre in his right hand; to his left stands Empress Eudokia and to his right an associated co-emperor, all clad in elaborate Byzantine imperial costume with jewelled loros and pendilia. The abbreviated legend KWN MX ANΔ appears distributed across the field in Greek characters, identifying the co-emperors Constantine X, Michael VII, and Andronikos Doukas. The design is enclosed within a double beaded border consistent with Constantinopolitan mint practice of the period. |
