Obverse description Confronting head of a roaring lion in right profile, rendered in bold high relief characteristic of early Lesbian electrum coinage. The mane is depicted with deeply incised, radiating striations fanning across the neck and cheek, conveying naturalistic texture. The open jaws reveal the tongue and teeth, imparting a fierce, animate quality to the design. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, typical of archaic hammered electrum issues from Lesbos.
