Obverse description Full-length effigy of Duke Arnold of Egmont depicted facing, clad in full plate armour, standing within a beaded inner circle. The duke holds a sword upright in his right hand and an orb or globus cruciger in his left, asserting both martial and sovereign authority. The figure is rendered in the flat, Gothic relief characteristic of fifteenth-century Rhenish gold coinage. A circular Latin legend in uncial characters runs along the outer margin between two beaded borders, identifying the issuer by his titles.
