Eppillus was among the first British rulers to adopt Roman titulature, styling himself REX on his coinage — a deliberate political signal in the decades immediately following Caesar's expeditions and Augustus's sustained diplomatic pressure on southern British kingdoms. Whether this represented genuine submission to Roman influence or a savvy appropriation of prestige is still debated.
