The inscription, written in angular script, occupies the entire face and proclaims the royal titles and name of Sultan al-Zahir Barquq. The legend is arranged in horizontal registers with no border ornament, consistent with the utilitarian aesthetic of late 14th-century Mamluk copper coinage. The surface shows typical die-struck relief with natural flan irregularities at the periphery. No figural devices or geometric framing lines are present, the composition being entirely textual. |

A distinctive floral or foliate ornamental motif — characteristic of Mamluk Damascus mint issues of this period — is visible at the centre of the field, serving as a decorative device separating lines of the inscription. The legend records the mint name (Damascus) and the Hijri year of striking, with two die varieties corresponding to AH 798 and AH 799 respectively. The flan is irregular at the edges, as is typical of hand-struck copper coinage of the Mamluk Sultanate. |
