Cornelius Dolabella, this coin belongs to a narrow window of Roman colonial coinage in Africa Proconsularis during the early Tiberian period. Dolabella held the post in AD 23-24, the same year he suppressed the rebellion of Tacfarinas — a Musulamian chieftain who had harassed the province for seven years. The Senate voted Dolabella triumphal ornaments for the victory, though Tiberius pointedly denied him a triumph proper, jealous of military glory on behalf of his generals.
