| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bare-headed, laureate bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, with paludamentum (military cloak) draped over the left shoulder, rendered in the characteristic Hadrianic style with short curling hair and beard. The imperial effigy is boldly modelled in high relief against a flat field. The encircling Latin legend runs clockwise around the periphery of the coin, partially visible on this specimen due to wear and irregular flan. The portrait conveys the idealized yet naturalistic aesthetic typical of Hadrianic coinage from the Roman mint. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | Standing group composition depicting Emperor Hadrian at right, togate or in military dress, extending his right hand in a gesture of greeting or address (adlocutio) and holding a scroll in his left hand; facing him stands the personification of Mauretania at left, sometimes distinguished by an elephant-scalp headdress, holding a patera in her right hand and a vexillum (military standard) in her left. Between the two figures stands an altar, typically with a bull at its base, symbolising the sacrificial rite accompanying the imperial adventus ceremony. The large senatorial SC monogram appears in the field, affirming this issue as an aes coinage authorised by the Senate. The scene commemorates Hadrian's visit to the province of Mauretania, part of his extensive series of provincial adventus reverses. |
