Francesco Sforza seized Milan in 1450 after the Ambrosian Republic's brief and chaotic interlude following the last Visconti duke's death. His coinage struck at Genoa reflects a peculiar political arrangement: Genoa had passed under Milanese dominance by 1464, and the Republic issued ducats acknowledging Sforza's lordship during a window of just two years before French intervention reshuffled control of the city entirely. The emission is correspondingly small.
