Reverse description Central field features a large long cross pattée, its arms extending nearly to the inner beaded border, with small decorative trefoils or fleurs placed in each of the four quadrants between the arms of the cross. The cross is enclosed within a plain inner circle surrounded by a beaded border, consistent with the obverse treatment. The surrounding legend in Gothic uncial characters invokes the name of Conrad, King of the Romans, a traditional Genoese reverse type perpetuated on these later issues as a mark of imperial legitimacy. A letter initial at the end of the legend identifies the die variety. The hammered flan displays the characteristic irregular outline of hand-struck medieval gold.
