| Reverse description | A cross pattée occupies the centre of a polylobe frame whose interior points are embellished with trefoils, mirroring the decorative scheme of the obverse, all enclosed by a beaded border. The arms of the cross pattée are boldly rendered and fill the lobed compartments of the inner frame in the tradition of Genoese gold ducats of the medieval period. The peripheral legend, in uncial Latin characters, invokes the name and title of Conrad, King of the Romans, a nominal reference retained by convention on Genoese coinage long after its historical relevance had lapsed. The legend terminates with a mint-official's initial letter, which varies by issue and serves as a control mark to identify the responsible officer. |
