背面描述 Laureate bust of the deified Emperor Claudius facing right, depicted with characteristic rounded features and a wreath of laurel. The portrait is rendered in the dynastic commemorative style, presenting Claudius as divus following his posthumous consecration. The encircling legend, reading in Latin, identifies him as the divine Claudius Augustus Germanicus, father of the reigning emperor, and runs around the bust in the field.

附加信息

Struck at Caesarea in Cappadocia, this provincial drachm belongs to a small group of issues in which Nero explicitly invoked his adoptive father Claudius as a deified predecessor. The timing is pointed: by 63–64 AD, Nero had already executed Claudius's biological son Britannicus and was deepening his hold on dynastic legitimacy through precisely this kind of posthumous flattery. Claudius had been voted divine honors by the Senate in 54 AD, though Nero had dragged his feet on completing the temple — the coinage did more political work than the building program ever did.
