Arabic legends fill the three segmental divisions of the inner ring and extend into the surrounding annular zone. An outer marginal legend in Kufic-style Arabic script encircles the entire design, bordered on the periphery by a beaded or rope-pattern rim. The overall composition is characteristically dense and abstract, consistent with hammered Shaddadid coinage of the mid-eleventh century. |
