| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse field is entirely occupied by the Islamic shahada rendered in bold, densely interlaced Arabic script, characteristic of the Moroccan hammered coinage tradition. The legend reads in two lines: the first line bearing the first part of the profession of faith ('There is no god but God') and the second line completing it with ('Muhammad is the Messenger of God'). The calligraphy is executed in a robust, angular style typical of Alaouite-era dies, filling the flan to its irregular borders. No figural imagery is present, in accordance with Islamic numismatic convention. The planchet is irregular in outline, consistent with the hand-hammered production technique of the period. |
