The field is framed by a circular marginal legend in Kufic script running between two beaded or dotted border rings. Below the central inscription, the mint name Samarqand and the date are indicated in accordance with Samanid dirham conventions. The irregular flan and somewhat crude execution betray the imitative nature of this Volga Bulgarian issue. |
