The strike is characteristic of Norman-Sicilian hammered coinage, with the legend and ornament somewhat weakly impressed on the irregular bronze flan. The combination of Arabic script with a Western heraldic device reflects the multicultural artistic tradition of the Norman court of Palermo. |
