Obverse description Central field bears a three-line Arabic Kufic inscription proclaiming the Shahada and the mission of the Prophet Muhammad, arranged within a plain inner circle. A double marginal legend encircles the central inscription, separated by two concentric linear borders, carrying a Quranic verse from Surat al-Tawba (9:33) attesting to the truth of Islam. The coin is struck in hammered gold with characteristic irregular flan and the bold angular Kufic script typical of early Abbasid coinage.
