Dichalkon

The Perrhaiboi were a Thessalian people whose political autonomy fluctuated sharply depending on who controlled the region — Macedonian pressure from the north and the ambitions of the Aleuadai and Tagoi of Larissa kept them in a perpetually contested position throughout the fourth century. Their bronze coinage, issued during what appears to be a period of relative self-governance, reflects a community asserting civic identity through the mint at a moment when that identity was never guaranteed to last.
