| 背面描述 | A cross potent set upon three steps occupies the central field, with a pellet to the left and a pellet to the right of the cross shaft, referencing the archangel Michael as patron. The design follows the standard Beneventan denier reverse type of the period. A circular legend in Latin surrounds the central device, reading ARCHANGELVS MICHAEL, invoking the heavenly protector of the Lombard principality. |

Sico seized the principality of Benevento in 817 by imprisoning his predecessor Grimoald IV, ruling until his death in 832 as one of the more assertive Lombard princes of the south. Benevento had survived the Frankish destruction of the Lombard kingdom in 774 precisely because Charlemagne never fully subdued the south, and Sico exploited that autonomy aggressively — sacking Amalfi in 836 falls outside this issue's range, but his monetary output reflects a principality deliberately projecting independence from Carolingian authority.
