Obverse description Crude facing bust of the abbot or ruler Rainold (Renould) depicted in a schematic, Romanesque style typical of 11th-century ecclesiastical coinage. The face is rendered with large globular eyes, a prominent nose, and stylized hair or crown above, with wavy lines suggesting drapery at the shoulders. The legend RAINOLIDVS, introduced by a cross, surrounds the central bust within the coin's irregular flan. The overall execution is characteristic of hammered monastic deniers of the Flemish region, with bold but artistically naive workmanship.
