| 表面の説明 | Central plain cross with the letters R, E, X, and V distributed one per quarter within a beaded inner circle. The cross arms divide the field into four compartments, each bearing a single capital letter forming the royal title REXV. A circular Latin legend reading + HLVIDOVVICVSO REXV surrounds the beaded circle, typical of Carolingian hammered silver deniers in its crude but purposeful execution. |

Louis IV "the Child" was the last Carolingian king of East Francia, crowned at age six in 900 and dead of illness at seventeen. His reign over Lotharingia was effectively administered by Archbishop Hatto of Mainz and a fractious nobility — the coinage issued in his name reflects institutional momentum more than royal authority. The Namur mint, situated on the Meuse, was strategically positioned along major trade routes connecting the Frankish heartland with the Low Countries.
Prou's classification of this type among the Carolingian deniers places it within a late series showing progressive debasement from the reform standards of Charlemagne's 794 capitulary.
