Obverse description Central plain cross with the letters R, E, X, and V distributed one per quarter within a beaded inner circle. The cross arms divide the field into four compartments, each bearing a single capital letter forming the royal title REXV. A circular Latin legend reading + HLVIDOVVICVSO REXV surrounds the beaded circle, typical of Carolingian hammered silver deniers in its crude but purposeful execution.
