Obverse description Crowned bust of the joint monarchs facing left, rendered in a schematic medieval style typical of Catalan hammered coinage. The effigy is enclosed within an inner beaded circle, with the Latin legend IOA·KAROLU running around the periphery between two beaded borders. The crown is depicted with prominent points above the head. The portrait is crude but characteristic of Barcelona mint production of the early sixteenth century.
