| Obverse description | Crowned bust of the joint monarchs facing left, rendered in a schematic medieval style typical of Catalan hammered coinage. The effigy is enclosed within an inner beaded circle, with the Latin legend IOA·KAROLU running around the periphery between two beaded borders. The crown is depicted with prominent points above the head. The portrait is crude but characteristic of Barcelona mint production of the early sixteenth century. |

| Reverse description | A long cross divides the reverse field into four quarters, with an annulet placed in the second and third angles and three bezants arranged in the first and fourth angles. The letter B, denoting the Barcelona mint, occupies the center of the cross. The Latin legend BACANONA runs around the periphery between two beaded circles, referencing the city of Barcelona in its medieval abbreviated form. |
