| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central plain cross with four bezants (pellets) placed in the angles of the cross, forming a cross cantonnée design. The legend LVDOWICVS IMP runs around the periphery in Latin characters, invoking the Carolingian imperial name of Louis. The flan is irregular and the strike bold but somewhat uneven, characteristic of early medieval hammered coinage. The lettering is distributed within a beaded or rope-like inner border. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field bears the mint name MONETA flanked on either side by a small cross, the whole enclosed within a circular legend. The outer legend MONETA BRVXSELLE identifies the Brussels mint, rendered in large, somewhat irregular Latin capitals arranged around the periphery. The design follows the standard early medieval Carolingian denier format, with emphasis on the mint name as the primary reverse device. The flan edges are ragged and the die axis variable, consistent with hand-struck production of the period. |
