| Obverse description | Facing bust of Emperor Henry II in the field, depicted in a schematic, early Romanesque style typical of Ottonian-Salian hammered coinage. The emperor is shown crowned, with stylized facial features rendered in low relief. The Latin legend HEINRIC REX runs around the periphery, identifying the ruler as king. The flan is irregular in shape, as characteristic of hand-struck medieval pfennigs, with the design partially off-center. |
