| Beschrijving keerzijde | A plain cross with expanded arms occupies the center of the field within a beaded inner circle, a standard Carolingian reverse type. The arms of the cross extend nearly to the beaded border, dividing the inner field into four equal quadrants. The surrounding legend CORBIENSIS, introduced by a cross, identifies the issuing institution as the Abbey of Corbie. The lettering is arranged around the outer margin of the coin in the typical Carolingian minuscule epigraphic style, with slight irregularities consistent with hand-struck hammered coinage. |

Corbie Abbey, founded in 657 AD near Amiens, held minting rights granted by Carolingian royal authority — a privilege the abbey defended fiercely through successive reigns. This issue falls within the reign of Odo of Paris, the first non-Carolingian to hold the Frankish throne, elected by the magnates in 888 following Charles the Fat's deposition. Whether Corbie's mint acknowledged Odo or continued striking under residual Carolingian sanction during this contested transition is a question the coins themselves rarely resolve cleanly.
