The flat field is largely unadorned, placing full emphasis on the mint inscription. The flan edges are irregular and show typical die-shift and plancher irregularities consistent with ninth-century hammered coinage. This simple two-line mint-name formula is a hallmark of Carolingian denier reverse design under Charles II (the Bald). |
