正面描述 Facing view of a triple-towered castle gateway, the central tower surmounted by a domed finial and flanked by two smaller crenellated towers, all rising above a rounded arched gate set within a rectangular façade with ashlar detailing. A stylised nettleleaf (Nesselblatt) ornament appears within the upper arch above the gateway, serving as the heraldic symbol of Hamburg. The entire device is contained within a plain inner circle bordered by a prominent beaded outer rim, the whole executed in the flat, relief-pressed style characteristic of late medieval North German bracteate coinage.

背面描述 Uniface bracteate; the reverse presents a faint, mirror-image incuse impression of the obverse castle design, as is typical of single-sheet hammered bracteate fabric, with no independent design, legend, or inscription of its own.

附加信息

Hamburg's bracteate deniers of this period were struck during the city's consolidation as a self-governing commercial hub within the Hanseatic League, when municipal coinage policy was dictated as much by merchant guild interests as by any civic authority. The extreme thinness of bracteate fabric — a single-sided type struck on a thin flan — made these coins acutely vulnerable to damage, which explains why intact survivors are genuinely uncommon despite reasonably active original production.
