The elephant head beneath her feet alludes to Mauretania's African heritage and its celebrated war elephants. The control mark R XXXI appears in the left field behind the figure, indicating regnal year XXXI (31) of Juba II's reign. The composition is clean and bold, typical of the Caesarea mint's silver issues under Juba II. |
