Obverse description Bare head of King Juba II facing right, depicted in the guise of the youthful Herakles, with the Nemean lion's skin headdress draped over the head and knotted at the throat, its mane rendered in flowing curls framing the face. The portrait displays a fine Hellenistic style with idealized youthful features characteristic of the Caesarean royal mint. The Latin legend REX • IVBA appears in the right field, reading downward. A beaded border encircles the design.
