The wreath is tied at the base with ribbons and rendered with fine engraved detail. Within the wreath, the legend S P Q R / P P / OB C S is arranged in three horizontal lines. The reverse composition is austere and epigraphic in character, emphasising the constitutional relationship between the emperor and the senate and people of Rome. |
