| Description du revers | The reverse depicts an oak wreath (corona civica) encircling a three-line inscription in the field, a design referencing the civic crown awarded to Augustus for saving Roman citizens and perpetuated as an honorific device under his successors. The wreath is tied at the base with ribbons and rendered with fine engraved detail. Within the wreath, the legend S P Q R / P P / OB C S is arranged in three horizontal lines. The reverse composition is austere and epigraphic in character, emphasising the constitutional relationship between the emperor and the senate and people of Rome. |
