| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bare head of Emperor Claudius facing right, rendered in the realist portraiture style typical of Julio-Claudian imperial coinage. The effigy displays the emperor's characteristic features, including a broad neck and somewhat fleshy face. A continuous circular legend surrounds the portrait, reading TI CLAVD CAESAR AVG P M TR P X IMP P P, denoting his imperial titles. The legend begins at the lower left and runs clockwise around the field. The flan is irregular in shape, as characteristic of hand-struck Roman silver coinage of this period. |

The wreath is tied at the base with ribbons and rendered with fine engraved detail. Within the wreath, the legend S P Q R / P P / OB C S is arranged in three horizontal lines. The reverse composition is austere and epigraphic in character, emphasising the constitutional relationship between the emperor and the senate and people of Rome. |
