| Obverse description | Bare head of Emperor Claudius facing right, rendered in the realist portraiture style typical of Julio-Claudian imperial coinage. The effigy displays the emperor's characteristic features, including a broad neck and somewhat fleshy face. A continuous circular legend surrounds the portrait, reading TI CLAVD CAESAR AVG P M TR P X IMP P P, denoting his imperial titles.
