Obverse description Armored knight standing to left with head turned to right, holding a ribbon in the right hand; to the left, a shield bearing the arms of Saint Michael. The design is rendered in the boldly struck, somewhat naive style typical of Dutch hammered coinage of the early seventeenth century. The peripheral legend is inscribed in Latin within a beaded border.

Reverse description A rampant lion facing left, with a shield bearing the arms of the city of Zwolle affixed to its flank; the date is divided by the lion's body in the field. The composition is bold and dynamic, characteristic of the Dutch Leeuwendaalder type. The surrounding Latin legend is separated from the central device by a beaded inner border, as visible on the coin with the date 1637 clearly legible in the field.
