| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features the crowned Arms of Zeeland — a composite shield displaying the heraldic devices of the County of Zeeland — surmounted by an imperial crown, with the date 1584 divided to either side of the shield. A large floreate cross with ornamental terminals occupies the lower portion of the device, characteristic of the Burgundian cross type. The circumferential Latin legend reads MONETA NOVA ARG. COM. ZELAN., identifying this as new silver coinage of the County of Zeeland, separated by pellet stops. The overall design is executed in the late-Renaissance hammered style typical of Dutch Republican provincial coinage of the period. |
