| Reverse description | Central field bears the crowned quartered arms of the Spanish Netherlands in the Burgundian tradition, comprising a large heraldic shield with multiple quarterings including the diagonal pale-bendy device of Zeeland in the lower sinister quarter, surmounted by an arched imperial crown. The shield is encircled by an elaborate wreath of foliage and stylised acanthus ornament rendered in the mannered style of late-16th-century engraving. The circumferential Latin legend DOMINVS MIHI ADIVTOR — meaning 'The Lord is my Helper' — runs around the periphery, separated by pellet stops, expressing the Protestant devotional motto adopted by the rebellious Dutch provinces during the Eighty Years' War. |
