A circumferential Latin legend in Gothic lettering runs between the beaded border and the coin's irregular hammered rim, reading the royal title of Manuel I. |

| Descrição do reverso | Central motif features a plain Latin cross of Jerusalem set within a laurel or olive wreath, the cross rendered boldly in high relief against a flat field, with the wreath framing it in an inner circle. The cross and wreath composition is characteristic of the Portuguese Cruzado coinage, evoking the crusading symbolism for which the denomination was named. A beaded inner border separates the central design from the circumferential Latin legend in Gothic characters, which repeats the royal titulature of Manuel I. The coin's surface shows the characteristic irregular flan and die alignment of hammered gold coinage of the period. |
