The central device is surrounded by a wreath of laurel or olive leaves, tied at the top and extending symmetrically around the field. Lopadusa — modern Lampedusa — was a tiny island station in the Sicilian channel, and its autonomous bronze coinage is among the most obscure civic issues in the western Mediterranean. The island's numismatic output was limited almost certainly to local exchange needs for passing maritime traffic rather than any sustained urban economy. CNS#3 corresponds to one of only a handful of recognized types attributed to this mint.
