The surrounding legend, rendered in Gothic uncial characters, reads KAROLVS FRANCORVM REX (Charles, King of the Franks), separated by pellet stops and running between two concentric beaded circles. |

The circular legend in Gothic uncial script, SIT nOmEn D BEnEDITVm A (Blessed be the name of the Lord), runs between two concentric beaded borders and is punctuated by pellet stops. |
