| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of the deified Trajan facing right, rendered in fine high relief characteristic of Trajanic coinage. The paludamentum is visible at the shoulder, with drapery folds rendered in careful detail. The laureate wreath crowns the emperor's head, consistent with his posthumous divine honors. The circular Latin legend runs around the periphery of the flan, framing the portrait. The effigy is struck on an irregularly shaped flan typical of hammered Roman aurei of this period. |
