The figure is draped and rendered with fine detail in the drapery folds, consistent with late Republican die-cutting style. The legend L • REGVLVS IIII • VIR • A • P • F is distributed around the field, naming Lucius Livineius Regulus as one of the quattuorviri auro argento aere flando feriundo, the magistrates responsible for the striking of coinage. The flan is broad and irregular, with a generally plain field. |

Struck in 42 BC under the authority of the Second Triumvirate, this aureus was issued by the moneyer Lucius Livineius Regulus during a period when Mark Antony's faction controlled the minting apparatus in Rome. The quattuorviri monetales — the board of four moneyers — continued operating as an institutional formality even as the Republic's constitutional machinery was being systematically dismantled by Antony, Octavian, and Lepidus following Caesar's assassination two years prior.
Livineius Regulus is otherwise sparsely documented; his family appears in Cicero's correspondence, suggesting a respectable but not dominant senatorial lineage. Crawford's RRC 494/2b distinguishes this variety by the obverse legend stop placement.
