She holds a pair of scales in her right hand and a long vertical sceptre or rod in her left hand. The senatorial authorisation mark S C (Senatus Consultum) is prominently placed in the lower field, flanking the figure on either side. The partial legend COS DESIG III TR POT appears around the upper periphery of the flan. The composition is typical of early Flavian bronze coinage struck at the Rome Mint, with the reverse type emphasising Vespasian's constitutional legitimacy. |
